MIX APPLICATION

NOMINATION

If selected to be participate in the Manoa International Exchange, you will receive a nomination email informing you of which MIX Partner University you have been nominated for. I received my email in June 2017. You will have the option to accept or decline. After I accepting my nomination for SNU, I needed perform the following:

Manoa International Exchange

MIX is one of the two study abroad programs offered at UH.  They offer exchanges

for both semester and year-long, and have different summer programs as well.

Requirements for MIX app:

  • a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

  • at least 2 completed semesters at UHM

  • a recommendation letter from a UHM teacher (form here)

  • passport

The process might sound daunting, but can actually be broken down into 4 steps:

Select

choose from their list of partner schools

Accept

accept their

nomination

Apply

apply to your school

The MIX application is online, and fairly simple to fill out. There are a couple of short essay questions and you will be asked to list your top five partner universities.

A month or two after the deadline, MIX will send you an email notifying you of your nomination, and after accepting the nomination you will be sent another email containing a next-steps list. Next steps include submitting a health clearance form, applying for a visa, applying for health insurance and figuring out course/credit transfers.

You'll then be emailed by your nominated school and sent a secondary application. Your school will then send you an acceptance letter.

but what about health insurance?

MIX & SAC have a cool health insurance plan that you'll be required to enroll in. It's $1 per study abroad day. I think I paid $124 or around there for Spring 2019 at SNU.

I can't speak anything but eNgLiSh. ?

All of MIX's partner schools offer courses taught in English ! Don't worry.

what about course equivalency ??

Ask your department for a course equivalency sheet! Shidler has a whole page dedicated to courses taken abroad. See their lists here

I can't think of any more general concerns off the top of my head, but any other questions you may have can be answered by MIX's incredible staff. Book an appointment here
