It's our first day in Seoul and Derek got locked out of our apartment!!!

My friends and I are finally here in Korea!

We landed on Thursday - the 21st - at 8:30pm (after a grueling 11-hour flight).

After another hour in the cab, we made it to our Airbnb apartment at around 10:00pm. We really should've went to sleep but we were so excited to look around that we braced the 28 degree weather and strolled outside instead.

We live on a very quiet street in Namhyeon-Dong, but 5-minutes away lays a bustling little area filled with small restaurants and shops. We ended up buying some snacks and pastries to take home with us and called it a day at 2:00am.

yikes!

the next day -

Itinerary:

  1. Buy face masks - air pollution is a big problem here, everybody wears one.

  2. McDonald's - honestly, deserves another post.

  3. Visit campus! !!!! !!!!!

  4. Dinner. anywhere.

Seoul National University is huge. School doesn't start until early March, but we wanted to check out campus and find our classrooms beforehand. We spent about an hour just walking around and picking up snow.

(temperature check: 32°F)

The whole campus sits upon Gwanaksan Mountain, and luckily the Business School is near the bottom. It only took us about 20 minutes to get to school from our house!

We came back to our neighborhood at around 6pm, and had dinner at some hole-in-the-wall yakiniku restaurant where nobody spoke English. A couple of gestures later and we got an amazing spread:

  • We came home smelling like meat

  • Derek stepped outside on the lanai while on the phone with his friends

  • We locked him out in the cold until he read some Korean phrases (it's our way of teaching!!!)

and that was our first day.

pretty mild.
